Zhujiajiao (Chinese: 朱家角) is an ancient town located in the Qingpu (青浦) District of Shanghai (上海), China. Zhujiajiao is only 48km from the downtown of Shanghai, so it is crowded with tourists on Saturday and Sunday.
Zhujiajiao is quite commercialized, shops and restaurants are everywhere, looks like a big outdoor shopping mall than an ancient water town.
Rice dumplings and wrapped meat are the specialties of Zhujiajiao, Choumeizai wants to try the wrapped meat, but gives up since it looks so fat.
Fangsheng Bridge (放生橋) is the landmark of Zhujiajiao, it is a newly built structure but perfectly matched with the environment. Some people like to release the living creatures here in order to obtain merit and blessing, so some hawkers are selling goldfish and tortoises next to the bridge.
Some of the guesthouses and restaurants look fashionable, that’s why some of the tourists are teenagers.
Zhujiajiao has several paid scenic spots, all of them are old buildings which have historical value, if you have time, just go in and look around.
