Huangyao (Chinese: 黄姚) is located in Guangxi, China. The old town of Huangyao has a history of around a thousand years, and many of its old buildings are still well preserved which make the whole town look nostalgic. As a tourist who likes taking photos, Choumeizai likes it very much.
Unfortunately, with a view to catering the special taste of Chinese tourists, some locals dress like Red Guard and dance on the old stage at the entrance, this place is really isolated.
It is believed that settlement of the Huangyao area began during the Song Dynasty (A.D. 968 – 977), but many of its buildings date from the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty (15th - 19th centuries). The name Huangyao was named after the two most common surnames of the locals living in the area – Huang and Yao.
Huangyao has 8 main streets and around 600 households. Most of the buildings still stay at their old looks, together with the old trees and old bridges, it looks better than some of the old towns in China where Choumeizai has been before.
A big open area is surrounded by countless houses, it has two ancestral temples and a dried lotus pond, many kids play in the pond with joy, what a beautiful picture of an old Chinese village.
The locals Huangyao have divided the water pool into several areas by the function, such as drinking, hand washing and clothes washing, all locals follow the rules strictly.
There is a small shopping street in Huangyao, which sells local products such as black bean chilli paste. Black bean is the signature product of Huangyao, try it.
