Hongcun (Chinese: 宏村) is a village in southern Anhui (安徽), China, near the southwest slope of Mount Huangshan (黃山). Hongcun is a beautiful historical village, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
The entrance of the village is in the south, there is a big reservoir name Nanhu (南湖; ‘South Lake’). There are not so many tourists in winter, the ducks play around the waterside.
One of the prominent features of Hongcun is their water channels system, the water in the channels is clean, suitable for drinking.
Besides providing drinking water, these water channels can also act as natural air conditioners and home decoration.
There are many restaurants and guesthouses in Hongcun which are renovated from the old buildings, they still preserve most of the old layout and decoration.
The food here is unexpectedly delicious, especially the chicken soup, so warm and tasty.
The architecture and carvings of Hongcun can date back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which are said to be among the best of their kind in China.
