Hongcun (Chinese: 宏村) is a village in southern Anhui (安徽), China. Hongcun is a popular tourist attraction due to its historical buildings and beautiful scenery. Several scenes from the film ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ (臥虎藏龍) were filmed in Hongcun.
There is a moon shaped reservoir named Moon Pond(月沼), the water surface is smooth as mirror and the reflection is incredibly clean and beautiful.
While Choumeizai is taking photos, a few geese come noisily, some locals use them as watchdogs.
A lady is selling local radishes on the waterside, Choumeizai buys one out of curiosity. Unexpectedly, the radish is sweet and crunchy, and tastes like fruit.
Along the alleys there are many little shops selling snacks, Choumeizai buys one traditional pancake, tastes good also.
The layout of Hongcun is very complicated, if you don’t want to get lost, always stay in the Main Street which has shops and restaurants.
Hongcun is arranged in the shape of an ox with the nearby hill interpreted as the head, and two trees standing on it as the horns. Four bridges can be seen as the legs whilst the houses of the village form the body. Inside the ‘body’, the stream represents the intestines and various lakes form the other internal organs. Hongcun is a couching ox instead of a couching tiger, without any question.
