Hallasan(Korean: 한라산) is located in the mid of Jeju(Korean: 성판악) island, it now reaches a height of 1,950 metres, which makes it the highest mountain in South Korea. According to the historical record, the latest eruption of Hallasan dated back to 1007, but now it is dormant.
Choumeizai looks back when he is getting close to the summit, the whole Jeju city is underneath, he doesn’t expect he has reached so high.
Doesn't know if the mountain is too high or the clouds are too low, Choumeizai finds that he is deep inside the clouds, the clouds keep spreading, the whole world turns white.
On the top of the mountain, there are many Koreans having lunch, the air is full of the smell of food, looks like an outdoor canteen.
There is a crater lake on Hallasan called Baengnokdam (Korean: 백록담), meaning 'white deer lake'. It is formed by the collapse of the top of the ridge by the movement of magma underground, its diameter is around 30 meters, it is the biggest natural lake in Jeju.
There is a legend attributing the name of Baengnokdam to otherworldly men who descend from heaven to play with white deer.
For the name of Hallasan, 'Han' represents the universe, while 'la' means pull. Both words mean that the mountain is high enough to pull the universe.
The summit is the junction of the mountain routes Seongpanak(Korean: 성판악) and Gwaneumsa(Korean: 관음사), the climbers can choose the most suitable route to go down.
