Dianchi (Chinese: 滇池), also known as Lake Dian and Kunming Lake (昆明湖), is a large lake located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau close to Kunming (昆明), Yunnan (雲南) Province, China. Besides its picturesque scenery, Dianchi is also an ideal place for watching gulls.
It is winter, so there are many gulls coming from Siberia, very noisy.
The lake covers 298 square kilometers, it is the eighth largest lake in China and the largest in Yunnan Province.
Tourists can buy some fodder to feed the gulls, but they just excrete whenever they like, so be careful.
The air pollution is quite serious in Kunming, so everything looks gloomy and colorless, but the gulls still sound happy.
Dianchi is a freshwater lake 1,886 meters above sea level, it is reputed as ‘Sparkling Pearl Embedded in a Highland’ (高原明珠). It was said that Dianchi was the model for the Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace in Beijing.
