Saxxon Reef is located at the north of Great Barrier Reef, it is one of the quieter diving spots especially in the morning, giving you the chance to explore the underwater world without the crowds.
Saxxon Reef covers about 1.9 square kilometres, it is approximately 55km Northeast from Cairns, lies between the relatively popular Norman Reef and Hasting Reef.
If you want to take good photos, you would better visit Saxxon Reef in the morning, the sunlight is not too dim and not too bright at this time, the color of the corals is more vivid.
The corals and underwater terrain of Saxxon Reef are varying, it is also a popular viewing point of sharks, but the sharks here are so shy, they disappear once divers arrive.
Fortunately, a baby stingray passes by with a beautiful swimming style, compensation for the shark.
The average depth of Saxxon Reef is around 15 meters only, you can see a lot of beautiful things without diving too deep, safe for amateurs.
