Jingtong Old Street (Chinese: 菁桐老街) is a scenic old street located in Pingxi District (平溪區), New Taipei City (新北市), Taiwan. Jingtong Railway Station (菁桐車站) is right next to Jingtong Old Street, both are popular tourist attraction of New Taipei City.
There is a rack at the entrance of the old street, where tourists can hang bamboo tubes with their wishes written on them, praying for their wishes to come true.
Jingtong Railway Station is one of only four Japanese-style wooden stations in Taiwan. It was built in 1929 and was declared a historic site in 2003.
Jingtong Railway Station is located on the Pingxi Line (平溪線) and is operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration (臺灣鐵路管理局). The station served Jingtong for coal-mining purposes before 1975.
The coal mine site is located opposite Jingtong Jingtong Railway Station. The mine was excavated in 1937 and was closed in 1975, and now there are only ruins.
There is a Lover Bridge at the end of Jingtong Old Street. If you are interested, you can buckle a love lock here to show that you will be together forever.
There is an exhibition hall next to Jingtong Railway Station, which exhibits the past history of Jingtong. The place is small but beautifully decorated, and it is worth visiting.
Jingtong Old Street is actually quite short, and there are not many shops. If you walk faster, you can actually finish shopping in 5 minutes.
