Golden Waterfall (Chinese: 黃金瀑布) is a waterfall located in Ruifang District (瑞芳區), New Taipei (新北市), Taiwan. The soil and the water that runs off Golden Waterfall contains minerals including sulfur, arsenic and copper ore, which give the water its golden color.
The water of Golden Waterfall is very toxic because of the high amount of metal minerals in the water, and people are advised to not get into the water.
The rocks in the waterfall have acquired a yellow color over time due to the levels of arsenic and other minerals in the water.
There is an old Gold Mining Factory nearby the Golden Waterfall that dates back to the time of the Japanese occupation in Taiwan.
Shuinandong Mine (水湳洞礦場) has long been abandoned, and the former factory building is now only left with some broken beams and tottering columns.
Yin Yang Sea (陰陽海) is the estuary of Golden Waterfall, it is named for the yellowish-brown water in the bay, which contrasts sharply with the blue waters of the outer sea.
The stream water flowing from the Jinguashi Mine (金瓜石礦場) contains iron ions. The colorless iron ions oxidized to yellow after contacting the seawater and suspended on the blue sea surface.
