Uji (Japanese: 宇治) is a city on the southern outskirts of the city of Kyoto (京都), Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Although Uji is the second largest city in Kyoto Prefecture, the city area is serene and antique.
Walking from Uji JR station, you can reach the entrance of the visiting path if Byōdō-in (平等院), which is the most popular tourist attraction in the city.
Uji is famous for its green tea, the green tea shops flank the whole visiting path, selling green tea or the other green tea related products.
Even though you don’t like drinking green tea, Choumeizai still recommends you try their green tea ice-cream, which is incredibly yummy.
The owner of this green tea shop said he is the 16th generation of his family business, that’s why his shop looks so antique.
The second floor of his shop has a small private museum, showcasing some antique tea sets and tea making tools.
