Jofuku Park (Japanese: 徐福公園) is located in Shingū (新宮), Wakayama (和歌山) Prefecture, Japan. This park was built to commemorate XuFu (Chinese: 徐福), or Jofuku, a scholar who searching for the elixir of life on the order of Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang (秦始皇) around 2200 years ago.
XuFu was a Chinese alchemist and explorer, he served as a court sorcerer in Qin (秦) Dynasty (221-207 BC) of China. XuFu was sent by Qin Shi Huang to the eastern seas twice to look for the elixir of life.
The two journeys of XuFu occurred between 219 BC and 210 BC. It was believed that XuFu came to Japan with 3000 boys and girls in his second journey, he settled down in Shingu and never returned to China.
XuFu was said to be buried where the park is, there is also a big gravestone in the park. By the way, Jofuku Park is admission free, tourists can rent Chinese costumes in the gift shop.
Next to Jofuku Park there is a shopping street, but most of the shops are closed and you barely see any people. The economy of Japan is really awful.
