Simatai (Chinese: 司馬台) is a section of the Great Wall of China located in the north of Miyun (密雲) County, 120 km northeast of Beijing. UNESCO has designated Simatai Great Wall as one of the World Cultural Heritage Sites in 1987.
Simatai is separated by a valley into eastern and western parts. The western part is gently sloped with 20 well-preserved watchtowers dotting along the wall.
There are no tourists in the early morning, so Choumeizai can enjoy the serenity and nostalgia of Simatai.
Simatai incorporates the different characteristics of each section of the Great Wall, a Chinese specialist on the Great Wall has said that ‘Simatai is the best of the Great Wall.’
Simatai is 5.4 km long with 35 beacon towers, for safety, entrance to some sections are strictly prohibited.
