Dangjia village (Chinese: 党家村) is located in Xizhuang (西莊) Town, northeast of Hancheng (韓城) City, Shaanxi (陝西) Province. It was founded in 1331 and widely expanded during the 15th to 19th century.
There are totally 11 ancestral halls in Dangjia village, most of the villagers surnamed Dang (党) or Jia (賈).
The carvings inside the ancestral halls are exquisite, some of the pictures bear auspicious subtexts.
There is a small exhibition room inside the ancestral hall which displays Huamo (花饃), traditional food carving art performed on steam bun.
Wengchangge (文昌閣) is a tower dedicated to Wenchang Wang (文昌王), a Taoist deity in Chinese mythology, known as the God of Culture and Literature. There is also a primary school next to the Wengchangge.
Jiexiaobei (節孝碑) is a chastity memorial for so called ‘chaste widow’. Widow chastity was an ideal in traditional Chinese cultural practices and beliefs that honored widowed women and discouraged their remarriage.
At the edge of Dangjia village there are some ancient defensive constructions such as city walls, fort, and lookout.
The city walls look like a solemn troll, not only forbid the enemies trespassing in the village, but also stop the villagers leaving the village.
