Hozu Gorge (Japanese: 保津峽) is a gorge formed by Hozu River (保津川), which is located in Kyoto (京都) Prefecture, Japan. Hozu gorge is well known for its autumn’s scenery, tourists can take a boat cruise to go through Hozu gorge.
Since autumn is the peak travel season of Hozu Gorge, Choumeizai needs to wait about 15 minutes to get on the boat.
The boat is flowing downstream and manned by two boatmen, while one of them is also the guide, but he can only speak Japanese.
The starting point is Kameoka (龜岡) city located to the west of Kyoto (京都) city, and the length of the gorge is about 12 kilometers.
The maples along the gorge are not bushy, but they are very colorful, look extremely vivid with the grey cliff as background.
On the way there are several boats manned by hawkers, tourists can buy some snacks and souvenirs.
The cruise takes about 2 hours and the end point of the cruise is Togetsukyo (渡月橋) in Arashiyama (嵐山) area.
