Tabin Wildlife Reserve (Malay: Taman Hidupan Liar Tabin) is located in the eastern part of Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. The reserve comprises an area of approximately 468 square kilometers, Choumeizai will talk about the birds seen here.
The darters or snakebirds are mainly tropical waterbirds in the family Anhingidae. The name ‘snakebird’ refers to their long thin neck, which has a snake-like appearance when they swim with their bodies submerged.
Falcons are birds of prey in the genus Falco, they are widely distributed on all continents of the world except Antarctica. Adult falcons have thin, tapered wings, which enable them to fly at high speed and change direction rapidly.
Falcons prey on small animals such as fishes, rabbits or other small birds, but in Borneo, some small falcons will prey on insects.
Hornbills (Bucerotidae) are characterized by a long, down-curved bill which is frequently brightly colored. The common English name of these birds refers to their horn shaped bills.
Hornbills are omnivorous, feeding on fruit and small animals. They are monogamous breeders nesting in natural cavities in trees and sometimes cliffs. Choumeizai is so lucky to see the whole family on the trees.
