Curtain Fig Tree is a heritage-listed tree in the Tablelands Region, Queensland, Australia. It is one of the largest trees in Tropical North Queensland, Australia, and one of the best known attractions on the Atherton Tableland.
Curtain Fig Tree is estimated to be over 500 years old. An elevated boardwalk protects the tree while allowing visitors views of the fig from all angles.
Curtain Fig Tree is of the strangler fig species Ficus virens. Normally these figs germinate on top of another tree and try to grow roots into the ground.
Once the root has touched the ground, the tree will grow vigorously, finally kills the hosting tree and then grows on independently, tropical forest is really an arena of survival.
