Maisan (Korean: 마이산) is a mountain in Jeollabuk-do, (전라북도), South Korea. Maisan has an elevation of 686 metres, its name means ‘Horse Ears Mountain’, which refers to two extraordinary rocky peaks as they appear from the town of Jinan.
There is a Buddhist temple close to the main entrance, the buildings are not impressive, but the autumn around the temple is beautiful.
The vegetation of Maisan is not so lush and the river is quite dry, the autumn here looks a bit sad.
The scenery of Maisan is different in different seasons, but the scenery in autumn is deemed to be the best.
Besides the main road, you can explore Maisan by walking the small hiking trails, and the scenery is unexpectedly beautiful.
When the sun comes out, the colors of the red leaves look more vivid, red as burning fire.
The east peak is 678 meters high Male Maisan, while the west peak is 685 meters high Female Maisan, which form the two ‘ears’ of Maisan, both 'ears' are made of conglomerate rock, which is rare in Korea.
