Weifang (Chinese: 濰坊) is city in central Shandong Province (山東省), China. Weifang is the largest production and distribution center of kites in Chinese history, tourists can visit Yangjiabu (楊家埠) to watch the production of kites.
In the kite workshop of Yangjiabu, tourists not only can see the procedures of making a kite, but also can make a kite personally.
Kite flying is a traditional custom among the people in Weifang in spring time. In 1984, the first international kite festival was held in Weifang.
The kites here are still made by traditional methods, and the materials are also very particular. The bamboo strips used are all from Guangxi (廣西).
Among the many kites, Choumeizai likes this three-dimensional kite with the theme of the folk tale "Marriage of a Mouse" (老鼠娶親), which is vivid and cute. If tourists are interested, they can buy them home as souvenirs.
There is a small shop outside the kite workshop, selling the famous Shandong peanuts, which are so crisp and fragrant, more attractive than those handmade kites.
