Amanohashidate (Japanese: 天橋立) is a natural sandbar located in Miyazu Bay (宮津灣) of northern Kyoto Prefecture (京都府). Amanohashidate has long been a popular tourist attraction, it is listed as one of Japan's three scenic views (日本三景).
To enjoy the beauty of Amanohashidate, the best way is cycling, the hotels or guesthouses around here usually provide bicycles.
Amanohashidate is a thin strip of land connecting two opposing sides of Miyazu Bay, the sand bar is 3.3 km long and covered with about 7,000 pine trees.
In the middle of Amanohashidate is the Isoshimizu (磯清水) fresh water well, the well has been cherished since the Heian period (平安時代), which was selected as one of ‘100 best springs and rivers in Japan’ in 1985.
Although there is no entrance fee for Amanohashidate, the facilities on the sandbar are still good, it has several clean toilets and pavilions.
The western coast of Amanohashidate is a beautiful beach, but it is autumn now, so no one is swimming or sunbathing.
The sandbar is flat and covered with the shades of the pine trees, which makes it an ideal tourist attraction for families.
