Alleppey (Malayalam: ആലപ്പുഴ; also Alappuzha) is an administrative district in the Indian State of Kerala, its backwaters are a network of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast, the scenery is beautiful and exotic, a must go for every tourist who visits Kerala.
Since the houseboat is too big for the canals in backwaters, tourists need to be transferred to a small boat to get in.
The interconnected canals are the ‘spring of life’ for the locals here, not only a transportation system, but also provide water for drinking, bathing and washing.
Is the toilet sewage also discharged into the canals? Choumeizai wonders, thus worries about the children who are swimming happily in the water.
All transport in backwaters rely on these canals, which function as the roads or alleys in the city.
Most of the lands here are occupied by paddy fields, Kerala has its own rice, but Choumeizai doesn’t like it.
On the way, there are some children in school uniforms yelling, ‘Writing pen!’. Education is the most important, the children here know better than most of the children in the world.
