Zhongwei Gao Miao (Chinese name: 中衛高廟; literally meaning ‘High Temple’) is located in the Zhongwei (中衛)County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (寧夏回族自治區), China. This temple has about 250 temple rooms, towers and pavilion, covering an area of about 4000 square meters.
Gao Miao has encountered great ordeal during the Cultural Revolution, most of its statues and antiques have been destroyed, but its basic structure still remains the same.
Tourists can go inside the main hall, from the balcony of the third floor, you can enjoy the complicated but splendid view of the eaves of the whole temple complex.
Gao Miao is built symmetrically and layers upon layers to 29 meters high, it was the tallest building in Zhongwei, but now it is surrounded by concrete jungle.
This temple used to serve for a few various religions, such as Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and even Christianity, now it is mainly a Buddhist temple and managed by monks.
