Mani Sithu Market (Burmese: မဏိစည်သူဈေး) is located in Nyaung-U (ညောင်ဦးမြို့), Mandalay Region, Myanmar. The market is Nyaung-U's main market and is quite close to Shwezigon Pagoda (ရွှေစည်းခုံဘုရား), a local morning market rather than tourist market.
The weather around Bagan is quite dry, so the main crops are peanuts and beans, and their palm sugar is famous also.
Most of the agricultural products being sold in the market are organic, small and not good looking, but delicious for sure.
Bagan area is the main manufacturing place of Thanaka (သနပ်ခါး), Thanaka is a yellowish-white cosmetic paste made from ground bark, Choumeizai has put some on face, refreshing and moist.
The tour guide says that Myanmar has imported many vegetables from China recently, so it is getting more difficult to find local organic products in the market.
Although some of the hawkers are uneducated, they are quite intelligent in doing business, one hawker uses some old batteries for the weight of the scale.
There are some nuns asking for alms in the market, some shops have already prepared for them, the nuns just take the alms by themselves.
Before leaving, Choumeizai finds that there are many shops selling mobile phones, even an ancient country cannot be immune to the digital era.
