It is one of the few surviving provincial temples established by Emperor Sh\u014dmu (\u8056\u6b66\u5929\u7687) during the Nara period (710 \u2013 794).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-33-16.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-36-01.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction of Hida Kokubun-ji is believed to be around 757, over 15 years from the foundation of the provincial temple (Kokubun-ji) system in 741.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-35-16.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-32-14.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kokubun-ji (\u56fd\u5206\u5bfa) were Buddhist temples established in each of the provinces of Japan by Emperor Sh\u014dmu during the Nara (\u5948\u826f) period (710 \u2013 794).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-32-32.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-40-46.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarubobo (\u3055\u308b\u307c\u307c) is a Japanese amulet, particularly in Gifu Prefecture. Sarubobo are red human-shaped dolls, with no facial features. Traditionally, sarubobo are made by grandmothers for their grandchildren to ensure a well-rounded couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-30-29.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-46-41.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a big ginkgo tree next to the pagoda. This ginkgo tree is said to be more than 1,200 years old, and is called \"milk ginkgo\" because the aerial roots that hang down from the tree look like breasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-33-26.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-34-54.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local folklore, this ginkgo tree was planted by Guanyin Bodhisattva himself. Any mother visiting here will have abundant breast milk for her baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-34-34.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/japan_2015a\/20151020-15-39-43.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hida Kokubun-ji is located in downtown Takayama, a short distance from Takayama Station.
