During the reign of the Bagan Kingdom, Buddhist temples were constructed everywhere on the Bagan plains. The temple is recognized as a monument in the Bagan Archeological Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-29-01.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-19-25.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the pinnacle height of 66 meters, the five-story Thatbyinnyu is known as the tallest temple in Bagan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-34-23.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-32-01.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Thatbyinnyu Temple was founded by King Alaungsithu or Sithu I (\u1021\u101c\u1031\u102c\u1004\u103a\u1038\u1005\u100a\u103a\u101e\u1030) of Bagan Dynasty in 1144-45, the temple was then completed in 1150\u201351.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-35-25.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-35-23.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alaungsithu engaged in a massive building campaign throughout the kingdom during his reign, besides Buddhist temples, many livelihood facilities such as reservoirs and dams have also been built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-22-06.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-34-40.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The five-story temple served not only as a place of worship but also as a monastery and library.The temple has been hit by two major earthquakes, in 1975 and 2006, but its overall structure is still solid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-24-41.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/burma_2016\/20160321-12-26-38.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/southeastasia\/travel_burma_16_00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Myanmar's Adventure 2016 (Chinese only)<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bagan (Burmese: \u1015\u102f\u1002\u1036) is an ancient city in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar.
