The cape, known by geologists as the Yehliu Promontory, forms part of the Daliao Miocene Formation, such a peculiar rock formation makes Yehliu a popular tourist attraction in Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-111714.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-123126.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yehliu stretches approximately 1,700 metres into the ocean and was formed as geological forces pushed the Datun Mountains (\u5927\u5c6f\u5c71) out of the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-103542.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-111113.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>An orange dotted line is drawn on the rock offshore, and it is strictly forbidden for tourists to cross for safety purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-104112.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-104231.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoodoo (Tent rock) is the most distinctive feature of Yehliu. Some rock formations have been given imaginative names based on their shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-113435.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-114142.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was said that the name of Yeliu originated from its old Spanish name \u2018Punto Diablos\u2019 (Devil's Headland).  Then the locals skipped \u2018Punto\u2019 and the consonants \u2018d\u2019 and \u2018b\u2019, named it \u2018i\u00e1-li\u00fa\u2019, which was pronounced like \u2018Yeliu\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-114719.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-112903.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides peculiar rock formations, there are many other geological landscapes such as sea erosion platforms, sea caves and sea erosion cracks in Yeliu, which is an ideal location for geographical investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-114232.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-115418.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The best known rock formation in Yeliu is the \u2018Queen's Head\u2019 (\u5973\u738b\u982d), an iconic image in Taiwan and an unofficial emblem for the town of Wanli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-122453.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/taiwan_2011\/1007-122233.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to some geologists, the neck of \u2018Queen's Head\u2019 has been weathered at a rate of 0.2 to 0.5 cm per year.
