Shennongjia is named after Shennong (\u795e\u8fb2), once a mythological Chinese ruler who has become a deity in folk religion and is venerated as a culture hero in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-15-36-10.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-26-08.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Shennongjia Savage (\u795e\u8fb2\u67b6\u91ce\u4eba) is a mystical manlike animal spotted in Shennongjia. The \u2018savage\u2019 here is not the real one, only a gimmick to attract (or scare) the tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-03-46.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-16-50.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Chinese mythology, Shennong taught humans the use of the plow, aspects of basic agriculture, and the use of medicinal plants, so there is a garden of herbs to commemorate him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-15-56-38.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-15-57-37.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This tree is over 1,000 years old and its root is hard like rock. Shennongjia occupies 3,253 square kilometers, while over 90% of its area is virgin forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-20-03.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-21-20.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Shennong Altar (\u795e\u8fb2\u58c7) is composed of nine tripod-style cauldrons and eight gui (\u7c0b), tourists can worship their ancestors or pray for god's blessings here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-32-15.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hubei_2015\/20150512-16-28-16.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The statue of the head of Shennong at the sacrificial altar is 21 meters high.
