Jiayu Pass is the first frontier fortress at the west end of the Ming dynasty Great Wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"487\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-08-47-34.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-02-53.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure of Jiayu Pass was built during the early Ming (\u660e) dynasty, sometime around the year 1372. The fortress there was greatly strengthened due to fear of an invasion by Mongolian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-26-22.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-39-00.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure of Jiayu Pass lies between two hills, one of which dominates Jiayuguan Pass. The fortress was built near an oasis that was then on the extreme western edge of China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-37-41.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-42-26.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The pass was a key waypoint of the ancient Silk Road. From the top of the wall, tourists can enjoy the panoramic view of Gobi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-43-10.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/gansu_14\/2014-06-05-09-43-42.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jiayu Pass has two gates, one on the east side of the pass and the other on the west side.
