Since the mausoleums are pyramid shaped, Western Xia Mausoleums earn the name of \u2018Oriental Pyramids\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/info.thetravel.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/20130407-1537.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3856\" srcset=\"https:\/\/info.thetravel.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/20130407-1537.jpg 650w, https:\/\/info.thetravel.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/20130407-1537-510x340.jpg 510w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1550-3.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Occupying an area of some 50 square kilometers, the Western Xia mausoleums are at the foot of the Helan Mountains (\u8cc0\u862d\u5c71) including nine imperial mausoleums and 250 tombs of imperial relatives and officials of Western Xia Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1550.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1549-2.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Western Xia Kingdom existed between 1038 and 1227, when it was conquered by the Mongols under Genghis Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1550-2.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1557.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>About 17,000 square meters have so far been excavated, but there are still many unknown mysteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1546-4.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/ningxia_2013\/20130407-1546.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Western Xia is little known to anyone because of Genghis Khan's policy calling for their complete eradication.
