The tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world, and the mosque, if completed, would have been the largest in the western Muslim world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-19-59-45.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-00-30.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hassan Tower was commissioned by Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, the third Caliph of the Almohad Caliphate, near the end of the 12th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-03-23.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-05-00.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When al-Mansur died in 1199, construction on the mosque stopped. The minaret was left standing at a height of 44 meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-11-54.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-19-56-57.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After Yaqub al-Mansur's death in 1199 the mosque remained unfinished and his successors lacked the resources or the will to finish it. The structure was left with only the beginnings of its walls and 348 columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-19-59-57.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-14-04.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The walls of the mosque were made of lime concrete on top of a rubble stone base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-14-40.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-20-03-30.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The tower, along with the remains of the mosque and the modern Mausoleum of Mohammed V ( \u0636\u0631\u064a\u062d \u0645\u062d\u0645\u062f \u0627\u0644\u062e\u0627\u0645\u0633\u200e), forms an important historical and tourist complex in Rabat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-19-58-30.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/morocco_2019\/20190412-19-56-18.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the tower and the mosque were commissioned by Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, the monument is known as the \u2018Hassan\u2019.
