The temple was first founded in 1020 during the Liao dynasty (915\u20131125), and grew quite large during the subsequent centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"488\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian545.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian542.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fengguosi has had several names over the centuries, including the \u2018Xianxisi (\u54b8\u7199\u5bfa)\u2019, \u2018Seven Buddhas Temple (\u4e03\u4f5b\u5bfa)\u2019 and \u2018Dafengguo Temple (\u5927\u5949\u56fd\u5bfa)\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"488\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian550.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian567.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, only two halls, two gates, and a decorative arch survive in Fengguosi. The most important surviving building is the Mahavira Hall (\u5927\u96c4\u6bbf), a very large hall that dates from 1020.
