It is 15 kilometers from Shanhai Pass (\u5c71\u6d77\u95dc). As Jiumenkou traverses through a 100 meters wide river, this section of the Great Wall takes on the characteristics of a bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian425.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian439.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jiumenkou is actually a huge stone bridge which features eight piers and nine sluice gates, the gates would close in the period of low water level to prevent the invasion of the enemies, whilst it would open when the water level was high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian426.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian427.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Built around 1381 under the Emperor Hongwu (\u6d2a\u6b66) of the Ming (\u660e) Dynasty (1368-1644), Jiumenkou has undergone major repairs and renovations several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian429.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian431.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The piers of Jiumenkou are shuttle-shaped, which can cut open the strong current of the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian436.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian428.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jiumenkou is connected to the wall built along the mountain ridge which is still well preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"488\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian452.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian453.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some locals burn ritual paper money to the dead of the Great Wall as they think that all misfortune is caused by the people who died here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"488\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian451.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/bejing_dalian_2009\/dalian456.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a big tunnel around Jiumenkou which can accommodate thousands of people inside.
