Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built between 1767 and 1771, during the reign of the Qianlong (\u4e7e\u9686) Emperor (1735\u20131796).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2508.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2514.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple complex covers a surface area of some 220,000 square metres, making it one of the largest in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2515.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2518.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple was modeled after the Potala Palace of Tibet, the residence of the Dalai Lama built a century earlier. Since it was modeled after the Potala palace, the temple represents a fusion of Chinese and Tibetan architectural styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2522.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2523.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Putuo Zongcheng Temple was originally dedicated to the Qianlong Emperor to celebrate his birthday, as well as provide Hebei with a temple of equal size and splendor as the Potala Palace in Lhasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2532.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2535.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Putuo Zongcheng temple served more functions than just Buddhist ceremonies and festivals, it was also the location where the emperor would gather meetings of different ethnic envoys from within the empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2551.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2567.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the halls and pavilions of Putuo Zongcheng Temple are adorned with copper and gold tiled roofs, and look very splendid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2619.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2582.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Putuo Zongcheng Temple is part of the \u2018Eight Outer Temples\u2019 (\u5916\u516b\u5edf) located in Chengde, which are part of the World Heritage List along with the Mountain Resort (\u907f\u6691\u5c71\u838a).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"433\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2588.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2615.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From the top of the temple, you can see Mountain Resort and overlook the \u2018Little Great Wall\u2019, nice view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2593.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/hebei2010\/20101001-2609.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/china_taiwan\/travel_hebei_10_00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bashang's Autumn2010 (Chinese only)<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Putuo Zongcheng Temple (Chinese: \u666e\u9640\u5b97\u4e58\u4e4b\u5edf) s a Qing dynasty era Buddhist temple complex located in Chengde (\u627f\u5fb7), Hebei (\u6cb3\u5317) province, China.
