The island was a federal prison from 1934 until 21 March 1963, now it is a popular tourist attraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-00-21-30.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>All tourists can go to Alcatraz Island by ferry ride from Pier 33, which is located next to Fisherman's Wharf, the quota for tourists is limited, you must book it in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-00-18-44.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-00-31-39.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Alcatraz Island is 2.01 km offshore from San Francisco, the ferry ride only takes 15 minutes, on the way you can see another landmark of San Francisco: Golden Gate Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-00-40-32.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-00-39-05.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole Alcatraz Island is surrounded by cliffs and quite barren, it really looks like a huge rock from afar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-03-19-10.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetravel.me\/images-webp\/usa_2018\/20180402-00-43-43.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After disembarkation, all visitors will gather outside a restaurant next to the pier, the staff will brief you about the itinerary and some rules.
